Middle School News

As I welcome back all students from the break, I hope all had a good rest and have come back ready to start another Term of learning. This week a group of individuals finished a Pilot program of Therapeutic Martial Arts. It is an active therapeutic modality that combines the principles of mental wellbeing and emotional literacy with those of traditional martial art training techniques, games, metaphors and stories. Its format engages and empowers young people to learn life skills, and to better manage the challenges in their lives. The program has been running for 8 weeks and the final lesson involved the group bringing their friends to show them what they have learnt.

Middle School Leaders Report

In the next two weeks the Leaders will be working with Primary Schools and helping in leading MasterChef activities from the school. The groups work in the Food Technology room and help the students create a food that they can eat at the end of the lesson, using the resources in the room.

Year 7 Report

The year 7 cohort have had the opportunity to attend the Zoo this week as part of the Science Curriculum. They have had an organised lesson and were able to walk around the zoo looking at the endangered animals.

Year 8 Report

The year 8 cohort have been very busy in classes in the last two weeks as they have been working on a STEM project looking at Waste and the effects that it creates. It was very good to see students working in groups and recycling materials around the school to create bottle cars. They have also had to look at data from how much waste the school creates in a day.

Year 9 Report

The year 9 cohort have been busy working in groups and creating their report for their Urban Experience excursion. It was very pleasing to hear that some groups had booked meetings with groups in the city and had discussions related to the topic they were looking at.

WHSC Interact and Personal Best Community Project

It with pleasure that we announce this Special Community Project supported by the Glen Waverly Rotary Club. The Launch of the Project to all Year 7- 9 Students will occur Friday 26th October and continue until Friday 23rd November. Each Home Group will have a tub to accept donations of NEW Toys and Books, which we will deliver to The Smith Family depot for their distribution in December.

The Smith Family’s Toy & Book Appeal is your opportunity to help bring a smile to a disadvantaged child’s face this Christmas. Sadly, thousands of Australian kids will go without receiving a gift this holiday season simply because their families can’t afford it. This year, with your help, The Smith Family aim to deliver over 75,000 new toys and 50,000 new books to children in need around Australia.

Our Toy & Book Appeal provides gifts to children in need, allowing them to feel a sense of belonging this Christmas. Your generous gifts will help them acquire the skills and knowledge they need to build a better future.

Our Year 8 Home Group Captains, Middle School Leaders and the Interact Senior students, Issy Jones, Kyle Gwynne and Jasmine Sweeney will be leading this project.

We look forward to an excellent response “filling the tubs” by all our students and thank all families for their initial support.
