FROM THE PRINCIPAL

TERM 3 - WEEK 1

To the St Nicholas School Community,

A big welcome to Term 3 and I trust your children enjoyed a restful and enjoyable semester break. There are so many aspects I love about St Nicholas School, one being the culture we have developed where our high standards demand there is no easing into the term. The fantastic attitude from our students at Monday morning's assembly indicated they understand, once the uniform goes on for day one, our ‘Manners Matter’ and we strive for ‘two more marks’.

I wish our entire school community a wonderful Term 3 2019!

NAIDOC WEEK

Thank you to Ms Gemma Tolmie for organising and coordinating an outstanding week of celebrating our Indigenious culture in Week 10 of Term 2. Gemma’s passion and commitment to celebrating her culture is obvious. We are so very fortunate to have her at St Nicholas School.

Our NAIDOC celebrations concluded with a highly anticipated game of Oztag, Staff verse Year 6. The game highlighted the community atmosphere we are so very fortunate to have at St Nicholas. It was a wonderful way to conclude what had been a very successful term. Just quietly, I am also happy to report, the staff came out on top over our very fancied rivals!

SCHOOL BAND LAUNCH

As outlined in St Nicholas School Annual School Improvement Plan, 2019 is the year we create our very own school band. Late last term the band was launched, and what an amazing launch it was. The level of skill and musical talent on display had to be seen, and heard to be believed! The sheer joy from our band members will not be forgotten in a hurry. Congratulations to our amazing band members and thank you to Lisa McSweeney and Mrs Maria Creigh for the role they have played in putting the band together and upskilling our students.

GEMS: Girls in Engineering and Mathematics

Throughout Term 2 our GEMs students designed, created, critiqued and then launched their very own rockets. This wonderful opportunity provided to our students by Rebecca Hofman is not only an example of contemporary learning and engagement, though showcases the extras our staff take on every day to support our children. Congratulations to all involved!

2019 LBK REGIONAL AND LOCAL FRIDAY NIGHT RUGBY CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to our Year 6 Rugby team who on Friday, 5th of July won the LBK grand final 27-5 over Tamworth Public School, completing an undefeated season. Thank you to our three super coaches, Bryce McMurtie, Chris Eather and St Nicholas School ICT expert Barry Lane for the time and effort you have so kindly volunteered to support our students.

GRANDPARENTS DAY

This Friday we celebrate one of our favourite days on the St Nicholas calendar, the Feast of Saints Joachim and Ann and Grandparents Day. My thanks to Renae Dunst on organising what promises to be a wonderful day for our students and grandparents. The schedule is slightly different in 2019 due to our students numbers now touching 600, resulting in the whole school not fitting into either our Church or Auditorium. One thing that will never change however, is celebrating this wonderful relationship and thanking our grandparents for everything they do.

MS TOLMIE'S BAPTISM

Congratulations to Gemma Tolmie on being baptised into the Catholic Church on Saturday, 6th July. Gemma shared this special day with a number of St Nicholas School staff, close family and friends.

TOURNAMENT OF MINDS

In 2019, for the first time in our history, St Nicholas will enter 3 teams into Tournament of the Minds. Tournament of the Minds is a wonderful opportunity for our students to be taken out of their comfort zone and challenged in the Arts and general knowledge. Thank you to Liz Ibbetson and Helen Beale for giving our students this fantastic opportunity.

SURVEILLANCE/SECURITY CAMERAS

Finally, throughout the holidays, Advanced Inland Security installed a series of security cameras around the school. The cameras are another measure we have put in place to keep our facilities and children safe.

Have a wonderful week.
