Année 10 – La journée d’immersion à l’Alliance Française de Melbourne le 1er décembre 2019

A group of Year 10 students (Meike Berg, Tomas Graves, Hannah Grieve, Celina Lum, Olivia Marlow, Rose Patel and Elisa Sarsini)  participated in an Immersion Day at the Alliance Française de Melbourne on Sunday 1 December. They were the fortunate and keen recipients of a subsidy from the Department of Education to attend this event. Well done to all of them for their hard work throughout the year and their strong dedication to continue with their French studies to VCE. Below are some anecdotes of their personal experiences:

Meike and Hannah: ' It was a great opportunity to practise our French speaking, listening and comprehension skills. It was also great to meet other fellow students from around Victoria who are also studying French for VCE. Overall, it was a supportive, friendly and encouraging atmosphere and we were able to enjoy some French cuisine. Merci beaucoup pour l ’expérience! '

Olivia: 'The French Immersion day at Alliance Française was a fun and insightful experience. I got the opportunity to learn about what VCE French will be like. I got many of my questions about the exams and sacs answered and some of my worries relieved. The food was also delicious. It was a great opportunity to meet new amazing people and make some friends. C’était une bonne expérience ! '

Celina: 'The French Immersion Day was an incredible experience and opportunity provided by the Alliance Française. We were able to know the VCE French outline through interactive and engaging class activities (mixed with students from numerous other schools). It was such a good opportunity to immerse ourselves in the French culture and learn in a fun way, whilst making new friends and enjoying a delicious, French buffet! '

Berthe Mouchette Poetry and Written Competition Awards 2019

In Victoria, the Berthe Mouchette Competition organised by the Alliance Française de Melbourne, plays a key role in promoting the French language and culture. This competition is a unique experience for thousands of young Victorians, who have been bringing French poetry to life. This year, the main theme of the poems related to ‘La Fête’ – which means ‘Celebration’, to raise cultural awareness and diversity around the world.

At Mordialloc College, this competition is highly valued, as each year participants from both the SEAL and mainstream groups achieve great results. The Year 7/8 levels only compete in the Poetry. Students from Year 9 to 12 levels complete both in the oral and written components of the competition.

In 2019, overall, 116 schools across the state of Victoria took part in the Berthe Mouchette competition, amounting to 15, 895 participants. From Year 7 to 12 levels, only 10 % (i.e. 1,574) of those competitors were finalists.

Mordialloc College made it with 19 nominations by the Alliance Française examiners. This is a high achievement for the College, since students work very hard to prepare and get to this level.

Due to a tight schedule at Awards Night, we have presented 14 of the awards at our school assembly on Monday 9 December. The remaining few were presented at the Awards Night on Thursday 12 December. Congratulations – Félicitations à tous!
