Track and Field - State champions!
Last Friday eight MGSC students participated in the finals of the State Schools Victoria secondary schools track and field competition. MGSC can now boast state champions amongst our students.
Milly Webster (Year 10) came 1st in her age group 100m and 200m sprints. This is an outstanding achievement. Milly is the fastest 16 year old girl in Victoria.
The 15 year old 4 x 100m relay team - Hope Maillard, Tess Cahill, Malia Callaghan and Meka Barone - came first in their competion. Another awesome accomplishment.
There were more great results:
- Megan Blignaut - 2nd in the 17 year discus throw
- Charlie Anderson - 2nd in the 16 year long jump
- Hope Maillard - 5th in the 15 year high jump
- Freya Brown - 4th in the 12-13 years 1500m
The MGSC team tied 21st out of 200 schools. Congratulations to all the girls who represented our school. An excellent achievement!

Congratulations to the Year 8 Cricket team who played in their Southern Metropolitan Regional Round Robin last week. The girls, coached by Year 10 students Lily Pearce and Briar Brown and assisted by Mr Hull played with determination, fairness and were supportive of each other. They have now successfully qualified for the State final in a few weeks time. Good luck girls!
At last week’s College Assembly the 40 student coaches ranging from Year 9 to 12 were awarded with a certificate to recognise their efforts. The students have been involved in trial and training sessions throughout the year and have done an impressive job. Students in Year 9 and above in 2020 who are interested in becoming a student coach will need to keep an eye on emails and Compass for further information.
Over the next two weeks we have the Intermediate Basketball team and Year 8 Table Tennis team heading out to play in their regional final. Good luck to these students and thank you to the staff coaches for assisting.
