Student leadership

Student Voice

In week 6 (w/c 12 November) the junior student leadership team will run a a range of activities to support 'student voice'. Each day (recess Monday to Thursday; lunchtime Friday) there will be an activity.

Students will receive a raffle ticket that will go towards a prize! Which means the more times you participate the more chances you have of getting the prize!  The proposed program is:

Monday: Wellbeing photo booth - take a snap and reflect on what you are grateful for.

Tuesday: Wishing tree - write your wishes for yourself, our school and the world.

Wednesday: Graffiti wall - write, draw or express your ideas for our school.

Thursday: Food bank - donate non perishable food for less fortunate children and teenagers.

Friday: Movie and drawing the raffle.

Look out for the details. We hope to see you all there!

SRC Free Dress Day

Last week the SRC held our last free dress day of the year. There was no 'theme' for the students however it is tradition for the Year 12s to come dressed in their primary school uniform. Together we raised around $700. The money has been donated to Giselle Ciurej (Year 8) who is a student ambassador for One Girl - Doing it in a Dress which supports programs that help harness the power of education for girls and young women in Sierra Leone and Uganda.  Previous free dress days have to raised over $1000. In the future, if students are coming to school in free dress then they need to ensure that they do actually donate.

Outside of that, the SRC has been working hard to brainstorm ways to bring meaningful change to our school. Those ideas will be rolled over onto next year’s team where we plan to turn those ideas into actions. Next, we will also be sending out surveys starting from next year to gain more of a student voice.

Personal Learning

The Personal Learning course at Year 10 aims to include not only valuable career planning advice but also topics focussing on mental and physical wellbeing. Student are currently undertaking a three week unit with workshops incorporating pilates, activating and developing muscle strength, stress management and mindfulness. The intention of this unit is to teach student about the negative impacts on the body caused by stress and encourage a variety of ways they might reduce stress particularly as they lead into their exam period.

2020 student leaders

Panels of teacher and some current students are working through the process of determining our new student leadership teams for 2020. Student who have applied for positions should regularly check their school emails for notifications of interviews and outcomes. Final teams will be published as soon as possible.
