SOUTH WEST REGION ES CONFERENCE

The ES conference on Monday was a great opportunity for ES staff across the region to hear from several excellent speakers and importantly to mingle and share stories. Robyn Moore (aka Blinky) was certainly an energetic and engaging speaker, serving up many anecdotes and reflective thinking opportunities. Glenn Kane spoke about those Difficult Conversations we all need to have at times, and some role play - which everyone always enjoys!! Lastly Jo Surkitt and Melanie Kearsey got everyone moving and thinking about working towards balance in all areas of life. I’m sure everyone that attended would have had a take home message, thought, or Bugger Me moment. A big thank you to Chris Dickson for her organisation of the day and the amazing work she does daily.

Yr 7 CONNECT Day - 25th February

The Year 7 CONNECT Day is an opportunity for Year 7 students to build relationships with their peers and staff in a positive and relaxed atmosphere. In house groups, students will rotate through art, sport and team challenge activities that are focused on getting to know one another, identifying and using individual strengths, and having fun!

In Years 7 and 8, the Big Life Team facilitates student 'Wellbeing Days' with the purpose of building young people's resilience so that they can learn to bounce back from life's challenges. We do this by building self-esteem, self-awareness and self-regulation; promoting positive connections among students, staff and the school environment; and providing opportunities for challenge and growth.

The Year 7 CONNECT Day takes place onsite, on a normal school day, and will be led by the Big Life Team and supported by Warrnambool College Staff.

  • All year 7 students are expected to attend.
  • Students are to bring their own recess and lunch.
  • Uniform is not required on this day. Please ensure students are wearing neat, comfortable casual clothes that they can move around in and runners or other closed-toed shoes.
  • There are no costs associated with this day.

On the day, all year 7s are to meet in the Warrnambool College Auditorium at 9am.

We look forward to seeing all of the fantastic year 7 students there!

Class Clowns Competition

For the last two years Warrnambool College has proudly hosted the Warrnambool heat of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Class Clowns competition which has helped hundreds of funny, young peeps hone their comedy potential. Past participants like Joel Creasey,

Rhys Nicholson, Aaron Chen and William McKenna have gone on to be funny as a career, and now we want you!

Registrations for this one-of-a-kind, national secondary school comedy competition, are now open.

If you’re aged 14 – 18 (Years 9 – 12) and you have a stand-up,

sketch, physical or musical comedy act you should register now. It’s free to take part, all you need is 3-5 minutes of original, live, funny content and you’re in!

You’ll get to take part in a workshop with a professional comedian before performing your act in front of a live audience. If you progress through the heats you will then go on to a State Final, where you’ll be in the running to secure a place at the National Grand Final. We’ll fly all the national finalists to Melbourne to perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for a chance to win the Class Clowns title and a $2,500 prize package!

The Warrnambool Heat is on 26th of February.

The workshop is from 4:30pm until 6:30pm and the show is from 7:30pm.

Library

Welcome back to a new school year and a special welcome to those families who are new to Warrnambool College.  Please encourage your child to visit our College Library.

We have a wide variety of fiction and high-interest non-fiction books in our collection. We add new up- to-date releases on a regular basis. There is also a range of board games, Lego and chess sets for students to enjoy during recess and lunch breaks.

Overdue Books

Our College Library records indicate a number of overdue books. We would appreciate if students would return outstanding loans from 2019, allowing them to borrow.

Kind regards

The Library Team
