Arts and Technologies Showcase

Get Your Entries Ready

Students and staff from the Arts and Technology Learning Area have been busy organising the annual Arts and Technology Showcase event to be held next week. The event will be on the Thursday 7th and Friday 8th November in the Brigidine Centre. This exhibition will again showcase student’s work, from Foundation to Year 12, and will include pieces that have been designed, manufactured and created in Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, Technology Wood and Metal, Technology Food and Performing Arts.

A popular event in previous years has been the Cupcake and Marie Biscuit Decorating Competition. This hotly contested competition will be on again this year.

A new event for 2019 is the Scarecrow Building Competition. This is open to individuals, groups or families. Anyone is welcome to enter the Scarecrow Competition! To participate, entrants must submit completed registration forms (see below) and have their scarecrows at school by 9.00am next Thursday, 7th November. The minimum height for scarecrows is one metre. All scarecrows must be built from scratch by the entrant/s. Judges will be looking for scarecrows with that little bit extra: it may be the materials used, the way the scarecrow has been made, how the scarecrow is displayed, or simply a fantastic idea that catches the judge’s eye. We encourage re-purpose, re-use, re-cycle!

So, be creative!

This year, our Arts and Technology showcase will be opened by local art identity, Miss Tarli Bird. Tarli is a printmaking and sculptural artist, whose art practice follows and mediates her two passions in life: Printmaking and Running. Tarli's printmaking practice explores pattern and colour in combination, through screen-printing and the domestic process of sewing, to create whimsical domestic interior designs. Her sculptural practice explores her life as a nationally ranked athletics runner who has represented Australia in a number of international competitions. Tarli is a VCE Studio Art Teacher and a VCE assessor for the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority.
