From the Principal

Wow, school life can be really busy!!! Over the past two weeks we have witnessed many of our students shining in and outside of the classroom. From sports and excursions to projects and exams, so much happens each day that it is often hard to keep up.
Last Wednesday signified a very special day for our Year 12 students. For many of our students it was the last day of school after 13 years at St Augustine’s College. While for many, exams still lie ahead, last Wednesday was a significant milestone because it marked the end of formal schooling as these students knew it. No more TA roll calls, no more classes, no more uniforms, no more bells, no more school lunches and no more SACs. The familiarity, the routine, all that these students have come to know over the past 13 years, is now finished.
While some of these students did not start here back in 2007, the parents of these students at some point, entrusted us with helping to form them into the young people that they are today. We are proud and grateful that you chose Catholic Education and also hope that St Augustine’s will always remain a special part of your lives.
I would like to acknowledge our College Captains. Laura Groves and Alex Plummer. Your Leadership within your cohort and the wider student community has continued to grow throughout the year. We thank you for always representing our College in the professional manner you did.
To all our Year 12 students and families, you are now a part of our College story and you are always welcome and will remain a part of this community.
I would like to share a blessing that our staff, students and families gave to our Year 12 cohort at last week's final Year 12 assembly.
To our graduating students of 2019,
May your feet tread lightly on the earth and carry you safely wherever you need to go
May your hands be used in service sharing your gifts for good
May your minds be always open, curious and growing in wisdom
May your hearts be full of generosity and compassion
And may the spirit of St Brigid and St Augustine go with you as people of strength and kindliness.
Good luck and God bless.
As the weather heats up, I would like to encourage that we all continue to promote sun safe practices in our daily lives. Our College has recently engaged in professional learning in this area and will continue to be proactive in sun safe practices. All students need to ensure they wear their College hat at all times when outside. Being in a shaded area does not exempt anyone from wearing a hat while outside.
Last Monday night we were excited to present our new Pathways Program to our community. We were very excited by the attendance shown by our families and the response has been overwhelming. Over the coming fortnight we will commence interviewing students as a result of their application to enter this program. More information will also be shared in the coming weeks to our wider community.
Last night it was a pleasure to witness some of our students celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. I would like to thank all those who supported these children through their journey. It was also special that we could celebrate this sacrament with our new Bishop.
As you will read later in this newsletter, nominations are open to join our College Board. If you are interested in knowing more about this role, feel free to ask.
Have a great long weekend.
