From the Principal...

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese's,

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Sale Diocesan Assembly in Warragul. The Assembly was an invitation to the clergy, school leaders and parishioners, young and old, to join together to discuss important issues facing the Catholic Church in Australia at this time. Topics included liturgy and prayer, leadership and governance, the role of family and being a welcoming community.

The Diocesan Assembly is part of the Plenary Council's journey that dioceses and parishes all over Australia are currently taking part in to ensure the Catholic Church remains relevant in its mission to provide spiritual nourishment based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is my personal hope that our children are given the opportunities to be as involved as they can be in the mission of the Catholic Church because as you know, our children are the future!

First Eucharist

Last weekend, Susan, Sera, Isabel, Nyagieth, Lacey and Tiana Jae celebrated their First Holy Communion at St Agatha's Church.

The word 'communion' means to be united with; Catholics believe that in Holy Communion we are united in a special way with Jesus Christ. At his last supper, Jesus said of the bread that he shared among his followers, "Take and eat, this is my body." When we receive Holy Communion, Catholics believe that in a mysterious way we are sharing in the body and blood of Christ.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who came along to support the children last weekend; Meegan, Shelby, Sharon and Jane.

Lids for Kids

Lachlan in year 3 has introduced this excellent initiative to help those less fortunate than us. He is collecting plastic lids from milk and juice bottles. Please send them along to school, rinsed, to be included in the classroom's jar. Students who bring along lids will raise points for their school houses - Lisieux, MacKillop and Mercy. Please, only include plastic lids that have been washed. Thanks!

School Advisory Committee

The School Advisory Committee is a terrific opportunity to be involved in your child's education. At the meetings, we discuss policies, parent-school connections and other aspects of school life. The meetings occur once per month. If you would like to be part of this committee please let me know. We would love to see more parents attending. Don't forget that if you have a suggestion for the Board to discuss, use the suggestion eform located in the School News section of the newsletter.

I hope you all have a terrific last week of school and enjoy the holidays. A reminder that school resumes on Monday 7th October.

God Bless,

Michelle Bruitzman
