What you missed at

Mrs D's info session

Diaries- Handed in every morning, can be used for communication, recording reading, reading certificates and school spirit awards.

Homework- Regular home reading is invaluable to your student to improve their skills across all areas of literacy. We use the homework grid which consists of tasks that encourage your student to participate in family life and to practice skills being focused on at school.

Play is the Way- Tuesday-Friday mornings we start the day with a Play is the Way game. These games help to teach the students the value of resilience and how to make strong decisions when working with other people.

Brainfood-In the morning when the students come into class they are able to bring brain food with them to eat while we work through our organisation discussions to start the day. Brain food includes any fruit or vegetable. This could mean cut up carrot or grapes in a container, but doesn't include fruit rollups or other packaged fruit or vegetable products.

Investigations-Every Monday morning, Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning we have Investigations in Grades Prep, One and Two. During Investigations there is a focus of the student learning inquiry skills, social skills and personal organisation skills. There are specific learning intentions that the grade works on for a 2-3 week cycle. Before the students go to an investigation area they need to tell the teacher what learning intention they are going to be working on and how they are going to do this. There is a roster that is up on display in the classroom so that the students can see when it is their turn to be a focus student, reporter or photographer.

What's happening in Year 1/2?

We've had a busy couple of weeks in Grade 1/2 with a variety of exciting events such as Planks and classroom learning. During spelling lessons we have been learning about how our consonant sounds hear and feel, whether they are quiet and noisy and what part of our mouth is working to make the sound. While reading we are practising using this spelling knowledge to sound out our words and we are practising choosing a book that is a good fit. In Maths we have been practising our skills at skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's and have started learning about place value. The students have been enjoying our health unit which is about having a growth mindset, and we've had a lot of discussion about how mistakes are very valuable in the learning process. Discussion questions have been coming home in your students diary to relate to their learning and thank you for taking the time to talk to your students about these.
