School Captains

by Bianca Monson

Family Fun Night: Last Friday night we had Family Fun Night.  I think it went great, there was lots of activities and prizes to win.  Planks:  Last Wednesday we had planks day with Cam from the Green Hat Workshop to build and to create towers, cities and sculptures.  Everyone enjoyed it and we hope to see Cam next year.  Past Students: On Friday we had some past students come back to see how the school was going. They enjoyed talking to year 5/6 telling us what they were up to. Mr. Hunter loves when past student come back and we all love to hear your stories about camp as it is coming up soon and the 5/6’s will have their own stories to tell.

So Loch Primary have been doing some pretty fun activities over past weeks. First off, there was swimming carnival which I know everyone enjoyed that. Then family fun night was fantastic! All the stalls were filled with people that was pretty fun too. Then we had the planks day. Planks are little rectangular prisms that you can build stuff with and everyone let their imaginations run wild - it was amazing.  Mini beasts day for years 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 was brilliant we learnt so many things and got to go out into the yard and collect all sorts of bugs. On Bushy day there were tons of activity’s like damper, bush art, learning how to do knots, bush dancing and reading.  Kids at Loch Primary are really really lucky that they get to have these special activities. On behalf of all of the kids we thank the teachers for their organising and awesome work to make sure we have fun learning.

Enviro Captains

This week the enviro captains cleaned the cow trough.  Started to move the sand for the long jump and the triple jump practice.   We have an old environmental caption back in action, which is Darcy Sutton.

We have been very busy over the past 2 weeks we need some horse, cow, sheep or chook manure for the gardens. We have gotten lots of hay from the Sherar family but will need some more for our cows.

Sports Captains

Swimming Carnival: Two weeks ago we had the Swimming Carnival. We had a competition for which house could get the most points. The houses we had were: Yellow, Blue and Purple. Purple came 3rd, Yellow came 2nd and Blue won by a couple of points. I can tell everyone enjoyed the Swimming Carnival because everyone was cheering and dressing up in their colours!  We were really proud of the sports captains hopping in the pool for about an hour to encourage and help the junior swimmers with their races. Big thanks to the P&F for running the barbecue at the swimming sports.

District/Division Swimming:  Students who went to swimming trials got told that some of them would be continuing to district swimming. The kids that got into district swimming did extremely well. Zac Sherar got 2nd  in breast stroke at district and them went onto division swimming placing 5th in breast stroke. (there was only a touch between 3rd, 4th and 5th places) Thomas Sherar also got into District and swam butterfly and came 4th. What a fantastic effort by both boys. Congratulations from everyone at Loch Primary.

Sport Shed : The sports shed is amazingly clean thanks to: Jasmine Westwood, Paige Barry, Bianca Monson, Bailey Lightowler, Jessica Mackenzie-Ross, Charli Allen and Aidyn Bourke.

Athletics Day Training: For the last couple of days we have been training for the Athletics Day. Each class has practised doing Captain Ball and Tunnel Ball with Mr Birnie and Mr Perez during P.E. lessons.

Arts Captains

For the past few weeks in music Mrs Birnie has been teaching us how to play the drums. First we started with practising on our chair with drumsticks learning the basic rock beat, then some people moved on to playing the basic rock beat on the electric drums.

At the end of 2017, Mrs Birnie told us about State School Spectacular. When she told us about it registrations were closed but she managed to get our registration in and there was a chance that we would be going. Last week Mrs Birnie had some very exciting news for us, we were going to State Schools Spectacular. She told us that there were eighteen spots available and some people have already put their forms in and are going. If you want any more information feel free to come in and talk to Mrs Birnie. State Schools Spectacular is only offered to Year 5 and 6.
