A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Hi Everyone,
SCHOOL COUNCIL
I am pleased to announce the results of the school council nominations for 2020. As you know we had four parent vacancies and these have been filled by Fiona Edwards (re-nominated), Kevin De Wit (re-nominated), Julia Bouras new member and Desmond Jeremiah who is also a new member of council. At this time I wish to acknowledge and thank our three out- going school council members, they are Naomi O’Byrne who has been on school council since 2005 serving many years as secretary, Robert Sacco who has been on school council since 2009 and Judy Norton who has been a council member in the DET category since 2005. All have been valued members of our school council and their input and good humour will be missed. I cannot thank them enough for all their hard work and support. Thanks to you all!!
UPDATE CONTACT DETAILS
I need to ask you to please make sure your contact details are up to date at our school office. We do rely on having current information as we do call if students are sick or if there is an incident at school. If we don’t have the correct information there can be long delays in letting you know when things have gone wrong.
ILLNESS
Also this is a reminder about sick children, please keep them home! If you send an ill child to school then everyone catches the illness. This is especially true of tummy bugs and coughs/colds. I recognise that sometimes in the morning when things are busy you might not always realise that your child is a little bit unwell, sometimes it only becomes obvious later in the morning. I will always call you to come and pick up your child if they are sick to try and prevent the spread of illness across the school.
Please don’t forget that if your child has had diarrhoea they need to be kept home until the stools are firm and then they are not allowed to swim for 2 weeks.
CHILD SAFETY
On a similar matter our updated child safety policy will soon be available on our website as well as the child safe code of conduct and child safety responding and reporting obligations. This includes mandatory reporting obligations. You may or may not be aware that all teachers and now school councillors and speech therapists are mandated to report any child abuse, this includes physical harm, sexual abuse and neglect.
GROWING FAMILIES
On a much happier and positive note students and staff are settling nicely into the new school year, we have two of our teachers and one ES shortly to leave us for the happiest of reasons, they are pregnant. This will mean some changes to staffing but I will keep the families of the affected classes fully informed.
Cheers Sue
