Term Three
Welcome
Dear Parents
We hope your Term Two break was an enjoyable one. This term is our Concert Term and our concert 'Level Up' will be staged in September. There will be many activities related to the concert that the children will be involved in, especially the dance practises. We are looking forward to working with all our wonderful parent helpers with these concert preparations.
Thank you
We continue to appreciate those parents who have participated in our reading program. This program will continue this term and a sign up sheet is posted outside your child’s room.
The Year Two team consists of:
Mrs Lee Aigner, Mrs. Dianne Fox, Miss Nikita Williams and Mr. Cal Young
Term 2 highlights
The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about our Inquiry topic: Water Works
The children enjoyed learning about water and how essential it is to life. They not only drink water, they also use it for cooking, hygiene, recreation and agriculture. They learnt Australia is a dry continent with an expanding population, and they were able to develop an understanding of, and appreciation for, water as a precious natural resource. Through investigations, they explored how water is used, where
water comes from and how to use it responsibly.
Our Mad About Science incursion: Water in the Environment and our excursion to CERES Community Environment Park helped the the children understand how the water cycle works, how we collect and care for water resources and how to use it sustainably.
Curriculum
English
Reading: The children will continue to use a
variety of reading strategies to assist their independent reading this term. We will continue to expand on developing skills to assist in identifying inferential information (information not explicitly stated).
Writing: The focus this term will be Explanation and Poetry writing.
Spelling:
The children will focus on specific letter blends, related spelling rules and two letter phonic sounds.
Speaking and Listening: This term, the children will continue to complete two News Reports. Information on both the topics and dates of presentation will be sent home in Week 1.
Mathematics: The main topics in Mathematics this term will be exploring Number and Place Value, Money, Problem Solving, Location and Transformation and Statistics and Probability.
Unit of Inquiry:
This term our Inquiry Unit is entitled:
Physical Science: Push - Pull
Forces are at work in everything we do—we push to open doors, and pull to tie ropes. Gravity pulls on things to make them fall down or to keep them down. Scientists and engineers study forces to design better bridges and faster aeroplanes, and to reduce the forces that affect people in car accidents.
The Push-pull unit is an ideal way to link science with literacy in the classroom. The unit provides the opportunity for students to explore pushes and pulls. Through investigations, students observe and gather evidence about how these forces act in air and water, and on the ground. Students identify the effect of the pull of gravity and learn that both air and water can ‘push’.
