Health and Physical Education

To support the development of your son in Health and Physical Education, excursions will take place off-site. Parents and guardians would have received a Consent 2 Go via email this week. There wasn’t the facility to reply to each activity that happens throughout the year, Consent 2 Go was merely used as a vehicle to convey information. There was an error with the attachment summarising the activities. Families can be directed to THIS news item on MazCom for a copy of the attachment.

The swimming program at Year 7 commenced this term. The program aims to improve water safety, develop swimming ability and increase student confidence around water. Six classes have been put through their paces at Monash University, with remaining Year 7 classes to undertake lessons in Terms 2 and 3. Year 8 students will also get the opportunity to participate after the majority missed out last year due to lockdowns.

VCE Physical Education and VCE Health and Human Development classes have been working diligently. Below are student reflections from the different VCE subjects.

VCE PE Units 3&4

We had a group called METs come in to talk about Biomechanics in specific sports. We learned about angular momentum by standing on a spinning disk. Under their guidance, we were given great biomechanical examples on how to adapt our techniques to improve sporting performance. The incursion was good fun and very helpful.

In Year 11 PE we have covered a wide variety of topics. Some include anatomical terms of the body, legal and illegal methods and my personal favourite ‘strategies to prevent injuries.’ To deepen our knowledge of preventing injuries we had a prac where we played a basketball tournament, where we focused on how to prepare for physical activity.

In HHD, we have been looking at nutritional labels and their pros and cons. We have also been learning about different nutrients, their functions and food sources for each nutrient.
