From the Executive

As we approach the end of the first term of learning, it is wonderful that our young men have had an uninterrupted term of learning for the first time in two years. As I walk the corridor, I see animated classrooms full of life. The word school is a collective noun and it is done best together.

However, this transition back into learning has not been without challenges, and I would like to point to three resources that are available for students facing difficulties staying on top of the demands.

Mazenod Study Skills Page

We often ask our students to study, but for some, this word conjures images of long hours agonising over notes. Purposeful study is far more enjoyable and far more active. We have curated a page of short videos, links, and interactive files on the MazCom Study Skills page. Short explainers include:

What is study?

Why do I forget and what to do about it?

Taking powerful notes

Managing time to avoid wasting it (including a handy interactive study timetable)

What to do come exam time

I encourage families to spend some time creating a study timetable and making it visible in the home. This accountability is a powerful way of encouraging responsibility and regular good habits.

VCE Tutoring

As part of the ongoing government initiative to assist students to transition back to face to face learning, we have secured the services of tutors in the following subjects:

  • Maths Methods
  • Further Maths
  • Accounting
  • Legal Studies
  • Business Management
  • Chemistry
  • Psychology
  • English Language

These sessions run on Mondays after school and Thursdays. Students are encouraged to check the tutoring page on MazCom and speak to their subject teachers to access this service.

Homework Club

Some students need a quiet space to complete homework before going home. While the Library is available Monday-Thursday until 4pm, Homework Club runs each Wednesday 3:15-4 pm. This is targeted at Junior Students but is open to all. A teacher is always on hand to help out. This is a fantastic addition to any study routine.

As you can see, we are dedicated to assisting your son to achieve the very best he can in his academic pursuits. We are very proud of the results we get as a community and recognise that these are not the result of one year of effort, but from thousands of positive decisions over six years.

Every blessing for this sacred season of Lent.
