Principal's Post

Dear Parents,

Graduates who have a social conscience and who are prepared to make a difference in the world is central for Mazenod College. Rituals, symbols and religious experiences are significant experiential elements of school life where students may encounter God. Integrating social justice and spirituality into the formal curriculum is an important part of an intellectual culture of schools and an area that has potential for development. These liberating actions have the capacity to make classrooms and learning spaces hope-filled and build a better world for all. The search for meaning, affirming our identities as human beings and liberating young people to build a better world, is fundamental to an education in the charism of St Eugene de Mazenod.

Next week our Year 12 Students will be launching our 2022 Mission Action Day schedule and fundraiser. For many reasons, including COVID-19, there has never been a more important time to provide resources to those around the world who are vulnerable. We are also very sensitive that for many families and for many sponsors, who have been so generous in the past, times are quite complicated at the moment. Students are expected to be part of the Mission Action Day festivities and are expected to contribute to which extent they can. They have been encouraged to make their own contribution if possible, and to be sensitive when requesting sponsorship. Mission Action Day remains our major way of offering both moral and financial support to the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and their remarkable work across the world.

The Junior School Assembly was held last week in The Provence Centre. This is a great opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the diverse range of talent at Mazenod and to set expectations. I have been impressed with the way in which Junior School Students have re-engaged with school life on campus and are living up to the high expectations we have of all members of the community.

Many students have benefitted from the Tutoring Program that is offered at the College. This is an opportunity for students who may have missed critical information during 2021 because of the remote learning structures during lockdown to catch up. Students are always encouraged to seek extra assistance outside of class time to maximise their learning.

CALENDAR CHANGES

Tuesday April 26th 2022 will be a student free day.  This will be an opportunity for staff to participate in Professional Learning in relation to the College’s Visible Wellbeing and Visible Learning Strategies. Further details will be conveyed in the coming weeks.
