Teaching & Learning
Re-engaging students in the routines of school, differentiation of teaching, and developing feedback rich classrooms are three key elements of our annual implementation plan. Each week, staff are working in a faculty based team to implement strategies to achieve these goals. At the centre of these strategies is our goal of improving every student’s outcomes and positive experience of school by using reliable data and feedback to inform decision making.
Curriculum Day
Last week, teaching staff were privileged to participate in a day of learning with an International Education Leader, Lyn Sharratt. During this day, teachers worked in teams to review the way they were communicating learning goals to students and different ways to improve how students and teachers co-construct success measures for each lesson. Teachers used this professional learning to develop practice goals for their faculty teams.
Celebrating our STARR Values
We are delighted to have spent the first half of this term on-site, in face-to-face learning with our students. This is so important in providing the environment to re-establish a connected MSC community. One way that we are able to do this is by getting to know each of our students and developing positive and authentic relationships within the classroom. Our STARR values are the behaviours we embody within our community, and we have been very proud of how our student cohort has been displaying this both inside and outside the classroom. This term, we have seen students receive a wide array of awards demonstrating their positive contribution to school life. Please check your child's compass to share in their celebration of success.
Progress Reports
In week 6 and 7 each term, teachers complete progress reports for their students. Progress Reports are an opportunity for teachers to communicate feedback to students on the development of effective learning behaviours. Students and teachers are able to use these to establish learning behaviour goals each term and consider helpful strategies to achieve them. The feedback provided creates an opportunity for students, teachers and families to affirm the positive learning habits of your child and establish a clear focus to improve others. Progress reports are completed using our Learning Behaviour rubric which is available below.
Progress reports will be available on Compass in week 8. You will be able to access them by:

NAPLAN 2022
As students' progress through their school years, it is very important that checks are made along the way to see how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and mathematics – skills that will set them upon the path to success as adults.
NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress.
Federal, state and territory education ministers agreed to gradually transition NAPLAN online by 2022. NAPLAN will be held online in 2022. NAPLAN online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, providing better assessment and more precise results.
We understand that for some students, testing can feel daunting. This year, students will have the opportunity to complete their NAPLAN test in a familiar classroom environment with their classroom teacher.
NAPLAN will be held in Term 2, between Monday 10th May and Friday 20th May.
