Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Swimming Carnival.

Congratulations to Parmelia, medal winners and all of our swimmers who participated in the school swimming carnival at the Fremantle Pool.

It was a great morning with students giving each other plenty of support.

Thank you to the parents who came along and to the parents and staff who acted as officials.

Mrs Foster did a wonderful job in organising the event.

The Interschool carnival has been postponed for this term after speaking to Winterfold and Fremantle primary schools.

NAPLAN.

Students participated in a practice for NAPLAN recently to test the equipment. If any family is considering withdrawing their child from one or more of the tests, please contact your teacher for a form.

Adventure Playground.

The Adventure Playground has commenced, and it is hoped that it will be complete by the 19th of April.

We are looking for anyone who may have skills in working with wood who could be interested in building a couple of small cubby structures. These were removed from the project due to the increase in the costs. Please contact the office if you may be interested.

Later next term we will look at any plantings that may be required in the area.

P&C.

Thank you to the P&C for their kind support of the swimming carnival, paying for entrance and bus costs. The P&C also approved a Science incursion for later in the year and the cost of three picnic tables. The total of this funding including a contribution to the painting of some game designs on the bitumen comes to just over $8000.00

We are seeking advice on how we can secure the tables to the ground if they were to be placed near the carob tree. If you can help with this, please contact the school.

Recycling.

Our FOGO bin initiative is in place and students are becoming quite good at remembering the placement of materials in the various bins.

The school is currently looking at the possibility of recycling soft plastics.

COVID Update.

We have placed on the website a flow chart on how we look at supporting staff and students who may be at home with COVID. As processes have moved quite quickly over the last three weeks previous attempts at placing an infographic on the website has gone out of date before we had a chance to place it online.

As a school we are always looking at possible ways to reduce spread. Students in years 3-6 are becoming accustomed to wearing the mask and at recesses where groups may be sitting passively during breaks and after eating, masks are being worn more often also.

All the best to students who are currently at home as well as various staff and parents who are also home isolating. We are thinking of you.

School Board.

At our Board meeting members reviewed the School Funding Agreement for 2022. This outlines the funding received by the school based on the recent student census and other factors like our Mental Health and Chaplaincy initiatives, COVID support funding and other sources of revenue.

The school Behaviour Policy recently reviewed by the PBS committee and staff was discussed with it to be placed on our website shortly.

A document that helps define government school planning processes was tabled and discussed. The six pillars have been incorporated into our school and individual teacher programming. Focus 2022 is updated each year to look at government school priorities.

Staff also presented information on the testing that is undertaken in term one and how this data is used to help inform teaching and learning needs.

Mr Daniel Gretton accepted the role as Chairman of the School Board.

Members of our Board: Daniel Gretton [Chair], Lee McIntosh, Megan Bankes, Teresa Matassa, Russell Nicholls, Ellie Walker [S], Kate Reid [S], Sam Tingle [S], and Glenn Rondoni [S].

‘Your Move’.

Thank you to those families who were able to support the colourful socks and ride/walk scooter/skate to school initiative today. We had many prizes for our raffle including, slap bands, bike pumps, riding activity books and umbrellas. The ‘Your Move’ teamsters made up of year six students visited classrooms to talk to students and undertake a draw.

A story written up today will be submitted to the Department of Transport. Points awarded for stories go toward various cycling related rewards for the school.
