Parent Helpers in Junior Literacy

All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.

Literacy Helpers in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2

In Term 2 we will be seeking volunteers to help with Literacy in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 classes (subject to COVID restrictions). We are looking forward to  welcoming helpers in the classroom after lots of periods where we were unable to do so, and we envisage this will help foster the home/school partnership.

Prior to helpers commencing in Term 2, we will be running a Literacy Helper Workshop to provide some information and background that will assist you as a helper in the classroom.  This will be very similar to the session run in 2021 so if you attended then, you do not need to attend again unless you would like a refresher. We ask that all parents or other family members (over 18) who would like to be helpers and have not participated before, take part in a workshop. Teachers with a VIT registration are not required to do so.

The Literacy Helper Workshop will be an online event and a link will be provided closer to the time.  It will be run twice, however you only need to attend one session. The sessions will run for no more than an hour as follows -

Tuesday 22nd March at 1.45. OR

Thursday 24th March at 9.15

The Literacy Helper Workshop may also be of interest if you would like some strategies and ideas for helping your own child at home, even if you do not intend to be a helper in the classroom. Everyone is most welcome.

All helpers will require a Working With Children Check so if you don’t already have one, it would be good to start that process now in readiness for Term 2.  It is also a Government requirement that you are able to show that you have received a triple dose of the Covid-19 Vaccination to Office Staff on arrival. Days and times for helpers will vary from class to class and your child’s teacher will provide a roster for helpers to nominate sessions when they can help.
