Yarrabah's Eggcellent Garden

The Garden has returned in a big way to Yarrabah School. Secondary students are actively participating in Design and Technology curriculum within our new school garden each week. Glenn is our garden specialist and has transformed a patch of vacant land at the rear of the school into a thriving garden. It's only been half a year in this location however we are now seeing just what can be achieved with hard work and lots of effort from many people. Students really love this space and are learning so many new skills and understandings related to growing, harvesting and preparing the land. They are also learning more about some animals we have introduced to help the permaculture process.

Life Science - Term one, 2022

This term we are studying all about Earth sciences. Hence our theme has been about the weather. Students have engaged in making rain clouds, fluffy white clouds called ‘Cumulus’, and thin long clouds called ‘Cirrus’. We have also looked at different weather patterns around Australia.

Some of the EEP students were keen to help with bathing Rocky our resident bearded dragon. They were the best helpers. Lots more news to come from the science room, watch out for this space.

Sailing with Mordialloc Sailing Club

Each week secondary students who chose to participate in sailing, walk to the Mordialloc Sailing Club for an hour of sailing in the bay. We have not had the greatest weather for sailing in the last couple of weeks however last Friday was perfect.

The day started off with a lovely walk to the club. All students enjoyed the conditions and when we arrived we all enjoyed some morning tea in the club rooms.

After that it was time to get our sailing gear and life jackets ready to go out on the water.

We all walked down to the boats on the water and the volunteers helped us aboard. Some students sailed with a friend and club volunteer while others went sailing with just one club volunteers. All the volunteers have been sailing with Yarrabah for many years now and know our school well.

The sailing weather was perfect and we all really enjoyed the conditions and the experience.

All students returned to the shore and then went to get changed for our walk home. It was a spectacular morning.

Sailing is available for secondary students. We run a group in term 1 and a group in term 4. It is a popular outdoor education program with a full cohort of student participants so if your child is interested in sailing next year, make sure they register interest when the next round comes up.
