Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

Our parents and guardians will be aware that we have had an increased number of students registering a positive to their RAT over the past week. When I become aware of a positive test, a special bulletin is sent to all families alerting and asking them to take extra notice of their child's health, particularly those students in the class of the student who has tested positive.

Again I would like to thank all those parents who continue to keep their children home if they are exhibiting Covid symptoms but test negative to a RAT

Despite the state government changing some mask mandates this week, our students from Year Three to Year Six are asked to continue to wear a mask while in their classroom. Our staff will continue to wear masks when inside except when an act of teaching makes it inappropriate.

First Reconciliation

Congratulations to our Year Four students Fortunato, Yianna, Adam, Roery, Glendon, Jacob and Isheanesu who this evening receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in a special service at Sacred Heart Church. It has been a long preparation for these students with Covid preventing the celebration of the Sacrament on a number of occasions last year. We pray for these students as they take the next step in their faith journey

Opening of the School Year Mass

In consultation with our staff and Father Eloysius, we have decided to postpone our Beginning of the School Year Mass to 10.30am Sunday 27th March. We are hopeful that an extra three weeks will see the spread of Covid continue to subside so that our families can celebrate Mass with a greater sense of safety. As the Mass draws closer, we will be asking for students to take on roles and to also be in the school choir.

Manchester City and Parade College Soccer School

In some very exciting news, our Year Five and Six students have been invited by Parade College's Principal, Mr Andrew Kuppe to be part of the Manchester City, Parade College Soccer School. For anyone who knows anything about soccer, this is a magnificent experience for our boys and girls in Year Five and Year Six. Starting next Friday 4th March, our invited students will walk across to the Parade Preston Campus where they will participate in an hour training session conducted by a Manchester City coach with the assistance of some senior Parade students. These sessions will continue for the following Fridays. Can I express my gratitude to Parade College, in particular Mr Kuppe for giving our students this priceless experience. Who knows, this experience may lead to the unearthing of the next Sam Kerr or Lionel Messi amongst our Sacred Heart students.

Parents and Friends News

It was great to see so many parents at our first meeting last Friday. Jodi came away from the meeting with renewed energy about the year ahead after much enthusiasm and creative ideas were shared. This term the Parents and Friends group will organise post Opening of the School Year Mass refreshments and our traditional hot cross bun and Easter Raffle fundraisers.

Tongan Appeal

Thank you to all those students who supported our casual clothes day held to raise money to provide assistance to Tonga after the Volcano in January -  it is estimated that 84 percent of Tonga’s population have been affected. Through their generosity $185 very valuable dollars were raised for the people of Tonga.

Sacred Heart will donate all money raised to the Caritas Australia’s Pacific Emergency Appeal. Caritas is working to help provide the country with hygiene kits, water purification tablets and other aid. Sacred Heart has a long affiliation with the Tongan community through both the school and parish and we love supporting this appeal.
