Visual Art News

Mrs Christine Larsen

Year 11 and 12 Visual Art students visited the Museum of Brisbane to view the exhibition, “City in the Sun”, followed by the Gallery of Modern Art, where the “10th Asia Pacific Triennial” is currently on display. Students also had the opportunity to walk along the Fish Lane Arts Precinct to witness various street art and murals that have been developed in this space. The visit to these locations has informed Internal Assessment 1 for Year 12 students and the Responding Task for Unit 1 – “Art as lens” for Year 11.

Year 10 students had the opportunity to participate in an artist talk and workshop with Dylan Jones (Old Boy 2009) in Week 5. As a professional artist, Dylan’s work references scenes from everyday life and his practice is inspired by a variety of people and places. His paintings reflect his interest in colour, composition and simplification of form, which he instilled into the students as they worked on their own compositions. We congratulate our first “Artwork of the Month” winner for 2022, Harvey Madden, for his landscape painting produced in the Year 10 workshop. Harvey’s painting reflects strong atmospheric light formed through the skilful application of paint to effectively create a three-dimensional form.

Art Club has started up again for 2022 and runs on Tuesday afternoons. This term students are learning the art of basket weaving and will have a woven vessel to take away with them at the end of the term.
