Book of the week

Book of the Week

The term is in full swing now, it’s amazing how quickly we all settle back into our regular routine. The order has been placed for the next group of student requests and to date we have had forty student’s requests ordered, filled and placed on the shelves. We even had to order more shelves to fit all of the new books. If you have a favourite book that is not yet in our collection please come and fill in our request form and we will try our best to get it for you in the next order.

Looking forward to seeing you in the library.

The quiet and the loud by Helena Fox

The book we have chosen this week is a much awaited sequel to How it Feels to Float, a well-received first novel by Helena Fox. It is a powerful, lyrical novel about friendship, family, forgiveness, trauma, love and our hopeless, hopeful world.

George's life is loud. On the water, though, with everything hushed above and below, George is steady, silent. Then her estranged dad says he needs to talk and George's past begins to wake, looping around her ankles, trying to drag her under. But there's no time to sink. George's best friend, Tess, is about to become a teen mum, her friend Laz is in deep climate grief, her Gramps keeps losing all his things, and her mums fill the house with fuss and chatter. Before long, heat and smoke join the noise as distant wildfires begin to burn.Everything is loud, blazing, messy. Could Calliope, the girl who has just cartwheeled into George's world and shot it through with dazzling colour, be her calm amidst the chaos?
