Staff News

Congratulations to Libby Spencer, our Year 3/4S class teacher who has been nominated and shortlisted for a 2023 Australian Education Award. Libby is one of seven teachers across Australia shortlisted for the 'Primary School Teacher of the Year Non-Government' award. Libby will attend an award ceremony in August where winners will be announced for a variety of categories.

We have a fantastic team of educators at Pilgrim School and are very pleased that Libby has been recognised in this way.

Elizabeth Sarre - Leadership Certificate

I am pleased to share that I have recently received a new certification in Middle Leadership, through NESLI Australia/NZ. The content focus of this course included leading from the middle, communication, negotiation and influence, fostering exceptional teamwork, and leading learning environments.

A highlight of this course was a project where I could lead positive change within the school in which I work. Although my course is complete, my project will continue, and it is focused on our school's value, Serve. At Pilgrim, we seek to foster a culture that considers the needs of others and the community; making a genuine impact, and changing our world. Much of our service as a school is initiated by our staff and parents and we have acknowledged that our students have impactful ideas that we can draw on. Our goal is that each student at Pilgrim School is actively serving this year.

In Term 1, each class chose a group of people to serve throughout this year. Using the Design Thinking Process, students gained an understanding of an area of need, they spent time ideating and then decided as a class who and how they will serve this year. Over the coming months, we will showcase what each class is doing as they begin the action part of their service. You will see our students serving people in aged care, older adults, practically supporting children that don't have daily needs, a local playgroup, and our peers and environment on Campus. Watch this space!

Pilgrim School has a student free day on Friday 9th June. To attend OSHC on that day it is essential that bookings are made ahead.

To book, please phone OSHC on 8270 6178 or call in before or after school at the OSHC Office in the Geoff Simpson Hall. If OSHC is new to your family, some paperwork will be required.

Musical

Musical rehearsals are going well and the excitement is building for this year's Musical, "Right as Rain". Information about how to purchase tickets to the four performances will be in the next newsletter, available on Friday 9th June, Week 6.

Congratulations Lucy

Indofest is an annual event held in Adelaide celebrating Indonesian culture.

As part of the lead up to Indofest, the Indofest committee held a colouring/ drawing competition (colouring for ages 6 and under, drawing for ages 7-10). Children in our Foundation - Year 4 classes completed a colouring/drawing as appropriate for their age group during our Indonesian Day celebrations.

Congratulations to Lucy who won the Indofest Colouring in Competition.

Bebras Challenge Certificate Presentation

On Tuesday 6th June during Assembly, students that took part in the Bebras Challenge will be presented with their certificates. Parents are welcome to attend. Assembly commences at 9am in the PAC.

This year, certificates for competitions such as the Bebras Challenge and ICAS competitions will be presented in Worship/Assembly soon after they are received by the school. Parents will be notified in the newsletter when this will occur. Due to the large number of students involved in competitions, participation certificates will be presented in classes.

Volunteering at Pilgrim School

We remind all family and friends of Pilgrim School that we will have new compulsory requirements for volunteering that will take effect from the start of next term. Please click on this letter previously sent home if you have not yet completed the necessary process.

We love having volunteers in a range of roles at both Pilgrim School and on Campus. If you have some available time, you may want to help in classrooms (eg listening to reading), become involved with our Learning Assistance Program (working regularly with a student or small group of students), sports coaching or managing, fundraising, helping in the Canteen or Library, or attending camps or excursions.

If you are currently, or are considering, volunteering at Pilgrim School, please read our updated Volunteers Guidelines and Code of Conduct.

Our highest priority is to ensure we maintain a safe environment at Pilgrim School for all children and members of our school community. All volunteers will need to register through our new online Volunteer Registration and Agreement form:

As you will see, volunteers need to provide details of a current ‘Working with Children Check’ certificate, 'Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education and Care' (RRHAN-EC) certificate and it is highly recommended they also complete online Protective Practices training. Details of accessing these trainings are included in the Volunteer Registration and Agreement Form and on our website.

Please continue to sign in and out through the Front Office (temporarily located with the Campus Office) each time you volunteer at Pilgrim School.
