Letter to Family and Friends

Dear Pilgrim Families,

The Pilgrim Student Attributes are the values and skills we endeavour to develop in our students over their time at Pilgrim School. This short article will unpack the attribute: Take our place in the world.

Our definition of Take our place in the world is: God created us to live, care for and work together in His global community. This attribute is closely connected to the school values Serve and Explore.

To develop this attribute in our students, teachers aim to:

  • provide opportunities for service
  • cultivate stewardship
  • encourage students to be connected within the community
  • provide opportunities for students to learn about countries and cultures different to their own
  • include a global perspective in units
  • teach students to be environmentally responsible
  • show hope and confidence in the unknown aspects of the future.

Some of the verses in the Bible that closely link to this Attribute are:

The Lord God has told us what is right and what He demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern and humbly obey your God.” Micah 6:8

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Genesis 2:15

Throughout the children’s journey at Pilgrim School, our students are encouraged to:

  • be responsible stewards of God’s creation
  • be challenged to be outward focused
  • take initiative and develop leadership skills
  • take on new challenges and responsibilities
  • use appropriate language and be respectful towards others’ differences
  • be environmentally responsible.

This term both National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week are celebrated, and these will be opportunities for our students to focus on Take our place in the world as we consider the perspectives of our First Nations peoples, through working on a variety of activities in classes.

Blessings,
