Professional Learning Community 1 (Grade 1)

We are well under way into Term 2 within our Grade 1 classrooms. We are looking forward to a few exciting upcoming events including our Sovereign Hill excursion and second Earth Ed. experience. What an absolute pleasure it was to welcome quite a large group of grandparents along for our open morning last Friday. The conversations and memories were certainly flowing with excitement as generations came together to share in their own schooling experiences. We thank those families that were able to come along. Autumn was able to provide the Grade 1s with a fantastic opportunity to complete their amazing creative stories using description to explain the vibrant colours of the changing seasons. With our upcoming assessment period on the horizon, students will begin to showcase their learning and highlight their achievements. We are a very proud learning community and are looking forward to sharing in the growth our students have made already this year. As always, feel free to reach out if you have any queries. PLC 1 team.

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2)

We would like to thank all our grandparents and special people for a fantastic morning last Friday. The Grade 2s were so excited to have you all there and to show off their fantastic work.

Writing

This term we have Writing focus on Autumn. Students have been working creatively to put together an Autumn adventure narrative. Students have been encouraged to explore the beauty of Autumn and use exciting vocabulary to describe it. This week we are beginning a persuasive writing piece, arguing Autumn is Awesome! We can’t wait to see the finished writing pieces and what our students have achieved at the end of the week.

Reading

In Reading, students have been practising their summarising skills. We have explored summarising both fiction and non-fiction texts. We explored the text Wombat Stew for a week focusing on the characters, setting and problem when summarising. Students completed a portfolio task using Wombat Stew as their text and summarised using the method- Somebody, wanted, but, so, then.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been working on developing our subtraction strategies and understanding the link between addition and subtraction. This week we have moved into using our addition and subtraction strategies to understand and solve worded problems. Students will complete a worded problem portfolio task this week.

In kitchen our students have been cooking up a storm! We have made minestrone soup, bread, green tomato cake and herb and fetta focaccia.

Remember next week is the beginning of our assessment weeks! We are looking forward to celebrating PLC 2s achievements for Semester One.

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

What a fantastic Grandparents' Day we had last Friday! A big thank you to all the visitors and special guests that attended on the day. The Grade 3s had fun show casing their learning and sharing their celebrations with their special guests. Well done to all students, what a great day!

This week in Reading, we have been learning to summarise and back up with evidence from the text, the key points and main ideas while reading a class text. In Writing, students have been practising writing a persuasive text about why they think Autumn is Awesome. Some very persuasive arguments – can’t wait so see when they are completed by the end of the week. In Numeracy, students have been learning about money and how to use their addition and subtraction skills to calculate different amounts. Keep practising those skills.

Next week, assessment weeks begin, and these next 2 weeks of assessment is an important time for teachers to gather student data in preparation report writing. This is not a time for students to become stressed or worried about being tested but to remember that they keep a positive attitude and try their personal best.

Have a great rest of the week. PLC3 team.

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. We would like to start by thanking all those who joined us for our Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day. It was a wonderful event, and we appreciate your efforts in making it so special for our students.

In the classroom, our students have been hard at work. In Reading, we have been analysing and critiquing shared texts together. This has allowed our students to develop their critical thinking skills and explore different perspectives on various topics.

Our Writing classes have been focusing on constructing exciting fantasy narratives. We are thrilled to see our students develop their use of powerful language to create engaging stories.

In Numeracy, we have been working on measurement. Recently, our students completed a task that required them to use their applied knowledge of time to plan a trip to Melbourne using public transport. It was great to see students using their experiences on Melbourne Camp to guide them here.

In Project Based Learning, we have been continuing our investigations into Australia as a Nation. Our students have been working hard to create their own nations, complete with constitutions and national anthems. This project has allowed our students to learn more about the history and culture of Australia and develop their skills in critical thinking and collaboration.

We are excited to be participating in the winter sports competitions of Australian Rules, Soccer, and Netball. We would like to remind families to please keep checking updates on Compass for these events. We wish all students good luck in participating in these competitions.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to continuing our learning journey together.

Best regards,

The Grade 6 Team
