Green Team Leader

Our Green Team Captain, Michell, recently wrote a letter to our Prime Minister. Well done, Mitchell!

Dear Anthony Albanese,

Hi I’m Mitchell F and I'm 11 years old and in year 6 at Solway primary school Ashburton, Victoria. I'm the Environment Captain at my school and I'm trying to convince you to stop coal mining in Australia because it impacts the environment and nature in Australia.

I want to stop coal mining in Australia because it creates pollution to the country, habitats and destroys habitats for all the native animals and endangered animals in Australia. Coal mining also impacts the global footprint and takes us one step back from net zero emissions.

Coal mining impacts deforestation and again destroys habitats. Put yourself in other people's shoes, imagine a coal mine site right outside your property and then one day being kicked out of your house and property for a mine just to get bigger.

These are some really big impacts, and they need to stop now! People that are very heavily impacted by this aren’t getting clean land, water and no clean air. That impacts their mental health and livelihoods. It destroys communities by destroying social dynamics of communities.

Please stop coal mining in Australia!

Sincerely,

Mitchell Farley
