John XXIII Netball Club

We are in for beautiful weather this weekend, with sunshine all around.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

It has been great to see all of the girls on the court over the last two weeks. I hope they are enjoying their season so far.

The change in the structure of the Net Set Go competition means that teams will face 12 different teams over the course of the season as such there will not be any re-grouping during the season. There is no official ladder kept nor premiers or minor premiers.

The Years 5 and 6 re-grading is done after this week's game. Re-grading is done by the committee at Perth Netball Association and is determined by a lot of factors, not just how the team has gone to date. Please keep a look out mid-week for the new fixtures.

A reminder of basic protocols

  • This is a sport for the enjoyment of all the children playing.
  • NO JEWELLERY. Jewellery is not permitted on the court, not even taped. It is a safety hazard. Please do not put junior umpires in the position of having to confront parents to remove jewellery.
  • NO CHEWING GUM. Chewing gum is not permitted on the court at any time.
  • Nails must be short and filed smoothly. It is best to do this the night before the game as a lot of time is wasted courtside when players need to cut their nails.
  • Parents and spectators must remain stationary on the sideline.
  • Parents and spectators are not allowed to stand along the base/goal line.
  • Please respect the umpires, they are not perfect but they are doing their best. It is very intimidating when adults yell at them from the sidelines.

SECONDARY SCHOOL

With round three done, the regrading has been finalised. Please check your fixtures for any changes.

Please remember netball is a team sport. In community and club netball the size of that team can vary. It is important that everyone understand that missing games and training is letting the team down. Missing training in turn means you miss vital skills and strategies, missing games means having fill-in players with not the same competencies. While we understand that players get sick and injured or sometimes have appointments missing games for holidays or parties is disrespectful to your team, your coach and your opponents. It’s not always possible to find fill-in players which may leave your team short on court. This in turn may affect your team's ability to get into finals. Players that consistently miss training and games may not be given the same court time as players that are always in attendance.

Equally, players that do not put the effort in and muck around at training may not be given the same court time as players that are always working hard and trying their best. The Club works hard to find coaches that are committed to netball and have done the necessary training to provide excellent coaching regardless of which team they are in. It is disrespectful to the coach and the club when players assume that they do not have to work hard because they are not in the top team. Our philosophy is to encourage participation while striving for excellence no matter which team you are in. Players that consistently muck around at training may be benched during game time.
