Semester 1 Merit Assemblies

The air was filled with excitement as students and teachers gathered in the school hall for the highly anticipated Semester 1 Merit Assemblies. The event commenced with heartfelt speeches from the Year Advisers, acknowledging some of the achievements of students throughout the semester. The awards for the various subjects were announced one by one, recognising academic excellence from all the faculties, culminating in the awarding of the bronze, silver, and gold medallions. Cheers and applause filled the room elated students and teachers celebrated and recognised their hard work and dedication. The ceremony concluded with a brief photoshoot with the medallion recipients and their respective Year Advisers.

Scholarship Recipients from 2023 Proudly Public! Awards by Public Education Foundation

The Public Education Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to positively change the lives of public school students and teachers by supporting them with scholarships and professional learning, respectively. This year, five well-deserving students from Merrylands High School were awarded scholarships among 700 students across Australia.

2023 Young Champions Award Finalist

Congratulations to Lina Rice who became the finalist for the Young Champions Award of 2023 in the Cumberland LGA. She was nominated for her magnificent drive to be a leader, community servant and advocate to those around her. Her contributions involve leadership in the Asian cultural group for Harmony Day (2019–present). She led and organised the dance group that performed traditional song and dance. Lina’s leadership is valued amongst the Dance Ensemble within the school. She has represented Merrylands High by performing in numerous schools within south-west Sydney, Our Spectacular at the Sydney Opera House, Synergy Public Schools Dance Festival at the EVAN Theatre in Penrith, Pulse Alive at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney Olympic Park, and at our MHS Talent Quest. Her commitment to taekwondo is a result of years of learning skill that has led her to compete at a state level. Merrylands High School is very proud of Lina for becoming a finalist for this prestigious award!
