Principal’s Report
Mr Prasad
This term has been very exciting and eventful with lots of sporting, cultural and educational activities taking place, namely Harmony Day, Synergy Dance Festival, rugby league competitions, table tennis competition, Athletics Carnival, Year 9 & 10 Careers Market, ABCN GOALS Program, educational excursions including Work Ready Day for Year 11 VET students, stage 6 biology excursion to UNSW’s Museum of Human Diseases.
The school’s Year 5 Open Day was a success, and the participating students had access to a wide range of activities presented by dedicated teachers. Partner primary schools’ feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Merrylands High School students performed an excellent and vibrant cultural program for parents, carers, and staff on May 5 as part of our Harmony Day festivities. In addition to organising traditional dances, we hosted a food festival, supplying cultural cuisines that were sold to the school community. There was great support from our parents and the community for this event.
Our school has revamped the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) programs, which is embedded in the Care Continuum, a prevention-focused approach to address the full spectrum of student needs. A copy of our expectations from students has been widely published and is available for parents and students to read on the parent portal.
The school has published the 2022-2026 Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) on our school website.
This term also saw the completion of the futsal, netball, and basketball courts, that were constructed in the former parking lot next to Bristol Street. To accommodate the increasing number of kids who desire to play, the school invested in purchasing six additional table tennis tables.
The Hon. Chris Minns MP, Premier of NSW, the Hon. Prue Car MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, Julia Finn MP, our local member for Granville and the Secretary of the Department of Education visited us and spoke with our school captains and teachers who have been offered permanent teaching positions.
To all our safe respectful learners, enjoy your term break. "On behalf of Merrylands High School, thank you for your valued contributions and support in Term Two towards student learning."
