Junior Years News

From the Mambourin and Tarneit Campus

Year 3  - You Yangs Excursion

The Year 3 students explored the You Yangs on Wadawurrung Country on Monday 29 May. Students have been learning about the First Nations People of Australia and their connection to Country. At the You Yangs, students completed a walking trail, nature art, drew Aboriginal symbols in the soil and went on an Australian flora and fauna scavenger hunt. Learning outside the classroom is fun, as you can see when you click on the gallery of pictures below!

Reconciliation Week

The Year 4 students decorated hands after learning about Sorry Day and placed them in the garden near the entrance to the new Junior Years building. National Sorry Day (26 May) is an annual day to remember the Stolen Generations and came from recommendations from the Bringing Them Home report of 1997.

Throughout the week many classes have been focusing on Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week - 27 May to 3 June – is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

National Reconciliation Week started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 and was supported by Australia’s major faith communities.  Good News Lutheran College, as a community of faith, are committed to deeply listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and walking together for justice, healing and flourishing for all.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that reminds us that while generations of Australians have fought hard for meaningful change, future gains are likely to take just as much, if not more, effort.

Mambourin Family Picnic

The Mambourin family picnic was an exciting community event and allowed the Mambourin families to learn more about the new campus site. Almost 300 people attended the picnic at Club Mambourin, not far from where the new campus will open in 2025.

The children have been invited to contribute to a special time capsule that will be kept and opened sometime in the future when the children are older. They have drawn an image and their name on individual cards and we are collecting items to also go into the beautifully crafted box. Though the children are still trying to understand the way a time capsule will work, we are excited to teach them about the value of reflection and the consideration of change over time.

Year 5 Sale Week

Year 5 students are raising funds for ALWS! The stall will be open all week during Week 8, so send some money along to buy and support a great cause.
