Learning and Teaching in 3/4H

Secondary Day Experience

On Friday the 19th of May, our grade 4’s embarked on a Secondary Day experience to Avila and Salesian, which brought immense joy and learning opportunities to the students. The day aimed to give our students a glimpse into the wonderful world of secondary education. It was a day filled with laughter, exploration, and unforgettable memories! The Year 4’s had the opportunity to immerse themselves in various activities and interact with secondary school students and teachers.

  • Our experience in Salesian was so much fun. We had a Liverpool Soccer training session, made monsters out of clay and conducted some science experiments. I definitely enjoyed the experience - Hugh W

  • My favourite part of the day was practicing soccer skills during Liverpool Soccer training. We moulded clay to create monsters in art and watched liquid turn into fire during science! - Lucas C

  • My day at Avila was an eye opening experience. The Year 10 guides helped us understand what high school was like. They planned fun activities based on the subjects. Avila was very kind to invite us into their school! - Alyssa S

  • Avila was SO much fun! We watched fun performances, were given goodie bags and completed a scavenger hunt! Everybody was so welcoming and nice. - Gisele B

The Secondary Day experience was a resounding success, leaving our primary students with cherished memories and an increased eagerness for their future journey into secondary school.

Inquiry this Term in 3/4H!

As we shifted from History to Geography this term, our curious and inquisitive 3/4‘s have been exploring the custodial responsibilities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s land. Through discussions, research, and hands-on activities, they have developed a deeper understanding of the importance of respecting and protecting the environment.

  • In our inquiry unit, we have been learning about custodial responsibilities. This is what we are responsible for, like taking care of our land, plants and animals. As a class, we are creating a story on these responsibilities and will share our knowledge with the Grade 1/2s! - Liana K

The students have been on a virtual journey across the globe, exploring Australia's neighbouring countries. They have gained knowledge about the geographical location, cultural diversity and traditions of countries such as Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and others.

  • We’ve been learning about Australia’s neighbouring countries. We’ve learnt that places like Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Indonesia live close to us. Did you know that we used to trade things like sea cucumbers and rice with our close countries? - Abby K

Our current focus is understanding the climates of these neighbouring countries. We will delve into understanding the factors that shape different regions' weather patterns, recognise the main climate zones and explore the unique characteristics of each.
