Division Cross Country

On Thursday 1st June, we had eight students from St Joseph the Worker represented at the Darebin Division Cross Country meet at Bundoora Park.

Course: Damp, muddy, hills

Weather: Overcast, cold and breezy on the hills

Results are as follows, plus a comment on how each athlete felt about their race:

U10 Boys:

Matthew Passarella – 13th, “I’m very happy with my race!  I missed out by one place for the next race, so going to keep training for next year!”

Isaac Osbourne – 17th, “I’m really happy with my race, but I was so so dead by the end!”

U11 Boys:

Paul Giannatis – 15th, “It was really muddy and I thought I was going to slip, but it was still lots of fun and I’m glad I went.”

Bronson Constanzo – 16th, “It was a pretty hard race.  There were some really fast other athletes, and it was on grass and uphill, making it a lot harder than our race at Edwardes Lake (quite flat and concrete).”

Joseph Bagnato – DNS, “I was quite unwell on the day, so even though I made it to sign in, my family and I made the decision not to race.”

U12 Boys:

Hari Pontillo – 14th, “It was a muddy course but better than last year because it was raining and cold, at least Thursday it was a fine day.  I’m so glad that I participated.”

Christian D – 17th,  “It was a pretty good race.  The mud made it hard to run thru, and made it seem further than 3km long. But I’m happy with my race.”

U12 Girls:

Olivia Valenta – “8th!  It was super muddy and I felt like slipping, and people were so close behind me that I had to keep pushing and pushing to stay ahead and not get pushed over in the mud.  I had saved a bit of energy to sprint at the end, but that was also quite a hard thing to do after nearly 3km.”

Olivia made the top 12 finalists in her age group and will now proceed to Regional Cross Country at Kilmore Race Track on June 14.

We wish you all the very best for the next level Olivia – Congratulations!
