After a busy week of swimming our students have been happy to be at school to recover and get back into routine. Students have been busy in the Kitchen Garden and in the kitchen. The Kitchen Garden supplies the kitchen with fresh produce that are then made into delicious recipes. Classes have been learning about World Bee Day and how to help bees survive as well as growing carrot tops in the garden and classroom. In the kitchen they have been cooking damper and hamburgers. Our students love getting into both the garden and the kitchen and learning to use the utensils and tools safely. Next fortnight students will be learning about bush tucker and making one of my favourites – San Choy Bow. I encourage you to get your children into the kitchen or the garden so that they can share their knowledge with you.
Students in Secondary have been enjoying the life skills programs run by the Therapy Team. Students have been learning about brushing their teeth and have been provided a toothbrush and toothpaste which is then used during the day with the support of the classroom team. This is a fantastic program which looks at a range of life skills which out students will need.
Planning is underway for excursions for next term. The classes enjoy heading out of the school to learn about using public transport, accessing community buildings such as Libraries and shopping centres and using literacy and numeracy skills learnt in the classrooms. These are fantastic opportunities for our students and always enjoyed.
Staff and students really enjoyed their Subway lunches on Wednesday this week. Thank you to our parent volunteers who came in to help make this possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise money and to have a healthy lunch treat!
Room 26 are hard at work achieving Numeracy PLSP goals. Maths happens daily in room 26. Students learn through explicit teaching, routine, structure and fun. We love seeing the concentration on their faces as they learn and practice new skills. The repetition and use of concrete materials allows for constant success. Keep working hard Room 26 and we hope you are proud.
Regards,
Ash, Irene and Erin.
