NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

National Reconciliation Week runs from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June each year. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week 20223 theme, “Be a voice for generations.”

Is a challenge to all Australians – individuals, families, communities, organisations and government – to Be a Voice and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can make change for the benefit of all Australians.

At Maramba Primary School, each class has been learning about the purpose, history and importance of Reconciliation Week. Each student has been busily creating artworks of their own which has helped them to reflect on their understanding of the importance of reconciliation.

STUDENT ATTITUDE TO SCHOOL SURVEY

Also happening at the moment is the annual Department of Education Student Attitude to School Survey. The anonymous survey gauges the opinions of our Year 4, 5 and 6 students in many aspects of their learning and wellbeing. This is a valuable tool that allows us to talk to the students and discuss their thoughts and ways we can continue to improve what we do at Maramba.

READING INFORMATION SESSION FOR PARENTS

On Wednesday we held an information session on how we teach reading at Maramba and how parents can support their children with reading at home. Thank you to all the parents who attended and the staff who presented. There were many great questions and discussions. An extra special thank you to the members of FOM who gave up their time to look after the children who were in attendance in the library with lots of fun activities. There were many other parents who expressed interest but we unable to attend this time and therefore we will aim to run another session in Term 3.
