LEARNING DIVERSITY NEWS

LEARNING DIVERSITY TERM 3

During Term 2, the Learning Diversity team have been working hard to continue identifying students who require additional learning support, communicating with parents and adjusting programs to enable more support for students in classrooms.

In the online environment it is challenging to continue to provide the same levels of support, however the Learning Support Officers engaged and worked with students in online classrooms with teachers to ensure that students were provided with the best possible opportunities.

SPEECH THERAPY

Speech therapy classes have been re-organised to ensure students are able to access this important service. Elizabeth from Lime Therapy will be working with students on literacy, language skills, social thinking, and class content such as vocabulary from the Year 9 text Jekyll and Hyde. The Year 8 group will be run after school on Tuesdays from 3:30pm to 4:15pm.

SOCIAL THINKING GROUPS

During Term 2 a number of Year 7 and 8 students participated in our Social Thinking Group workshops with Wellbeing. This important program is designed to help students better self-regulate emotions, make friends and connections, widen their ‘tools’ for understanding social situations in their classes, and discussing the importance of safe communication, both in person and online. In these turbulent times we are hoping to offer this program to a group of Year 9 and 10 students across Term 3.

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING

After school tutoring by our Learning Support team is available to students. We are able to connect students to extend their learning with 1:1 or small group support. This service occurs in the library at the Enright Campus after school Monday to Thursday. Please contact me to organise this for your child.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA (NCCD)

The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.

Students are included if they have a medical or disability diagnosis or imputed diagnosis with school or parent based evidence. Students need to have received adjustments to their learning programs and these adjustments must have occurred for an extended period of time across the year. A number of moderation and cross checking of information including quality assurance occurs to ensure the school has enough evidence to include each student.

For further Information about the NCCD please visit the website.

Please also see the attached letter explaining our legal obligations under the NCCD and the information that will be shared. The Data collection is in August 2021.
