Principal's Report

Eye Catching

With the students back at school and resettled into their routines, it has taken no time at all for them to carry on from where they left off. With the most recent school closure happening during the first week of term, last Wednesday felt like the start of a new term – in fact yesterday was the first Monday of the term that students had been at school!

Some of the things that have caught my eye when visiting classrooms are:

  • Students from Year 5 and 6 taking part in the online High Ability Program. Details about the program are further in this newsletter.
  • The display of notable indigenous people and places in the WSC. This work forms part of the school’s involvement in the upcoming NAIDOC Yarning Conference, where Year 5 students will learn about Indigenous culture and history, directly from local Elders and Indigenous organisations.
  • Choir and Orchestra getting back together.
  • The interest and enthusiasm in the Olympics. I happened to be visiting 2C when Ariarne Titmus won her second gold medal, and enjoyed hearing the cheering of the students, which I am sure, spurred her on to victory! In the newsletter you will read about Friday’s Green & Gold Day, which was a great success.

Fig Tree Courtyard

You may have noticed that the shade cloth fences around the gardens of the Fig Tree Courtyard have been removed. It has been great to see students playing on the logs and rocks, whilst taking care not to trample the plants.

If you are interested in some gently used shade cloth, we have several rolls approx. 5m x 1.8m. We would love to have a community member reuse the material – it’s free to a good home. Send us an email if you are interested.

School Fees

A reminder that Essential Fees were due to be paid at the end of last term. Later this week statements will be emailed to families who have outstanding fees.

The disruptive nature of this term means that teachers may not have an opportunity to organise incursions and excursions as planned. Finance Committee will discuss what to do with these paid excursion levy fees if they have not been fully expended by the school.

Future Events & Dental Check-ups

You may be wondering what will happen to swimming, athletics competitions, incursions and excursions, parent volunteers, along with several other events and activities. As soon as we are made aware of any change in restrictions, we will let you know.

We have been informed that Smile Squad will be at school to carry out dental checks and treatment, from Monday 16 August. If you would like your child to receive a dental check, please return the consent form to school ASAP.

Wishing everyone a great week.
