Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we celebrate The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Spring is upon us and students have had the opportunity to engage in activities this week as part of their Religious Education, to grow in their knowledge and understanding as stewards of God's creation.

Pope Francis in his announcement for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation said,

"The annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation offers to individual believers and to the community a precious opportunity to renew our personal participation in this vocation as custodians of creation, raising to God our thanks for the marvellous works that have been entrusted to our care, invoking God’s help for the protection of creation and God’s mercy for the sins committed against the world in which we live."

In the prayer, to be shared with students at assembly this week is this prayer that I suggest you take time to reflect on.

God of creation, you who are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures, who surround with your tenderness all that exists, help us to be a witness to your presence, to your kingdom, here and now, and inspire us to live in communion with all that surrounds us.
We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

What can parents and carers do?

Please join your children in watching this week's assembly and participate in our Prayer for the Care of Creation. Perhaps spend some time this weekend caring for your own bit of God's creation at home and explore all of the amazing plants, animals, insects and birds in your own backyard. Help your children to give thanks to God for all that you find.

Our Catholic Identity

Please turn to the Our Catholic Identity  page of this newsletter:

  • for more on The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

  • to take up Bishop Brian's offer to have your say on what you believe to be important for your children in presenting them for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist

We give thanks for all of creation and especially for our little place, in the immensity of the universe, that we call St Joseph's.

Happy Father's Day

We wish all of the dads and the special men in the lives of the students of St Joseph's a very happy Fathers Day. We hope that you can really enjoy your day, and your children, as we celebrate you and the very important role you play. Thank you for all that you bring to the life of our school. We miss you!

St Joseph, pray for us.

When can I send my child to school for supervision?

The current Public Health Order makes it clear that it is only acceptable to “leave home for education if it is not possible to do it at home”

In line with this government directive, families are only able to send their children to school at this time if there is absolutely no option for them to learn from home. There are reasons this may be the case:

  • Every responsible person in your household, besides children, is an essential worker e.g.
    • frontline health worker or
    • in another occupation that requires you to physically attend a work location during school hours, parents who work at home should always consider the responsibility to keep children at home
  • Your child has pastoral care needs, discussed with the principal
  • There are other extenuating circumstances, discussed with the principal

Students have access to the same learning materials and experience whether they are at school or at home, and there is no advantage for students who are supervised at school.

Principal Awards and Merit Awards
