11 & 12

Ms. Laura Forster

I hope that you have been able to enjoy some of the lovely pre Spring weather we have been having recently. Re connecting with the outdoor environment and taking physical exercise outside supports in recharging not just our energy levels, but also contributes in keeping our resilience levels buoyant and general wellbeing strong.

In these times of uncertainty, resilience becomes an essential life skill. There has been much research in recent times that show that the practice of Mindfulness builds resilience. Resilience is our ability to cope well with life’s challenges, and to meet these stresses with adaptive skills and responses. Resilience is formed from within, through the ways we perceive and react to stressful situations. It can help us better cope with difficult thoughts and emotions without becoming overwhelmed by these situations. At senior school, both our year 11 and 12 students have been practicing Mindfulness through our partnership with Loupe. Thursday afternoon, Mike and AJ, our presenters from Loupe held a workshop with the year 11 students on Teams. Topics which enabled students to identify positive behaviours and attributes which will lead to successful outcomes in life. The link to setting achievable goals relating to school work was explained in depth. In the coming week, Loupe will present to our year 12 students specifically focusing on mindfulness and exam performance.

I hope you have seen some of the great student work during Science Week and the Art posts on LSC Facebook and Instagram. It is truly wonderful to see the fantastic work our students are doing throughout lockdown. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see these I highly recommend that you take the time. They never fail to put a huge smile on my face. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our teaching staff who have continued to do an amazing job engaging our students in learning.

Teachers are currently completing Remote Learning Progress reports that will be made available to families on Friday the 3rd   of September in readiness for parent teacher conference to take place online on Wednesday 8th and 15th September.

The year 12 GAT has now been rescheduled for Thursday 9th pending health advice.

Stay well,

Laura Forster.
