Curriculum

After another week of Remote Learning where we have been so impressed by the determination, creativity and love of learning shown by students and families, we are looking forward to having the chance to virtually celebrate Book Week this week!  On Wednesday morning for our Google Meet Check In, students are encouraged to come dressed up as a character from a book. We will brainstorm some creative options for costumes with things found around the house together to give families some ideas so that we are ready for our virtual parade as a class. On Thursday afternoon we will have a Book Week Storytime over Zoom with the MPRPS staff where students can join in to hear one of the teachers read a picture story book and celebrate our love of reading. We hope that you enjoy engaging with these Book Week activities!

In Maths last week, students have been exploring multiplication by making equal groups, using skip counting and arrays to solve problems. It has been fantastic to see students finding items around the house such as pasta, lego or toys as a strategy to help them model and solve the groups of problems. Students demonstrated their mathematical reasoning skills by pretending to be the teacher and filming an explanation of their strategies when working on groups of problems. We are encouraging students to keep practising their skip counting as this is helpful in solving multiplication problems efficiently.

In Writing, students used their five senses to write descriptive paragraphs of tightening tensions based on a picture prompt. Students challenged themselves to add details into their stories by using wow words to creatively ‘paint a word picture’. After looking at some examples and voice recording their ideas, students had a go at writing and the teachers loved reading the engaging, suspense-filled tightening tensions! It is important for students to have opportunities to talk about their writing before they begin and so the Seesaw voice recording feature is a key part of the Remote Learning writing process. As we look to improve our writing skills through our sizzling starts and tightening tensions, we continue to build on our handwriting, spelling and punctuation skills in our weekly Codes lessons.

Our Google Meets continue to be a highlight for students as we enjoy opportunities to see each other virtually, share and extend our learning and of course have a laugh! Please refer to Seesaw or contact your child’s teacher for the weekly schedule including MiniMaths and Guided Reading groups which will continue as usual. We are also looking forward to having the chance to read with each student individually through Google Meet. Please ensure that you have followed the instructions from your classroom teacher to book an appointment on Calendly and contact your classroom teacher if you have any questions or need additional information.

We are so grateful, as always, for your ongoing support and encouragement throughout Remote Learning. Looking forward to our Book Week Celebrations and having the chance to enjoy the Virtual Disco on Friday night!
