Selamat siang!

Happy Book Week! We are so excited to celebrate all the wonderful parts of book week with our virtual parade on Wednesday via Zoom meetings. A huge thank you to all families who have been sending positive messages to the 3/4 teachers over the past weeks, your kind words are very appreciated and we are so grateful to be a part of such a supportive and encouraging community.

We are continuing to run our Literacy Live and Mini Maths Zoom meetings each morning however please see the timetable below for some new additions. From 11:30 - 12, we will be introducing Masterclass support meetings. These are optional for any students to attend if they have a question about their work or would like some help getting started with a particular task. If this is something you think your child may benefit from, ask them to look out for the Zoom link posted in their classroom called “Masterclass Zoom”.

We will continue to run the optional social Zooms at 12:30 each day for students who are looking for a way to connect with their peers. Students have the option one day to attend a Minecraft Zoom however, this is not mandatory. The 3/4 teachers have staggered Zooms throughout the day to provide students with opportunities to have a screen break from their iPad. If you have any questions, please contact your classroom teacher on Sentral.

During our Literacy sessions last week students continued to focus on asking questions to help build a deeper comprehension of texts. It was fantastic to watch students get into character on Monday and interview a character from their book. We also focus on creating some new poems, revisiting limerick poems and starting to create some cinquain verses. Students were so creative and confident when recording their favourite poems on Thursday’s slides.

Mathematics last week saw students consolidate their understanding of division using the CUBES strategy to solve worded problems. We also began to explore what we know about mass using hands-on materials around us to find, measure and record how heavy objects are. It has been pleasing to see students challenge themselves and complete optional tasks each day to further build their maths problems solving skills.

Our daily Wellbeing check-in slides on Seesaw have been a great success with students using these to communicate how they are feeling each day and seeking support from teachers if they require it. We have loved reading all of the wonderful reflections from students about things they are grateful for, their strengths and what values they hold close. We are focusing on building positive mindsets and focusing on the good around us to build our resilience. A wellbeing tip from 3/4K this week is to set timers or alarms on your iPad so that you are not spending too much time staring at your screen. This way you can get up, go for a walk or stretch throughout the day.

We hope you have a wonderful Book Week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
