Do something you love this Summer, as the famous MYO Summer School turns 50. Join over 700 young musicians for an inspirational week of musical discoveries, engaging workshops and performances in the heart of Melbourne.

Summer School is about a whole lot more than developing your technique and expanding your repertoire knowledge. It’s about opening minds to a whole new sphere of musical discovery. It’s about sharing phenomenal musical experiences.

Taking place at the University of Melbourne in the cultural hub of the city, there are daily rehearsals in symphony orchestras, string orchestras, symphonic bands, jazz orchestras, and jazz combos catering for all levels and interest. The week concludes with concerts for families and friends in the beautiful Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

YOUNG ACTOR CALLOUT | 9 – 13 YRS

HotHouse Theatre is gearing up to welcome The Good Room (QLD), one of Australia’s most exciting independent theatre companies, who are coming to HotHouse to create I’VE BEEN MEANING TO ASK YOU – a play for grown-ups, performed by young people. This incredible production gives young artists, from the border region, the opportunity to work with a professional company and perform at the Butter Factory Theatre, as part of HotHouse Theatre’s Season 2021 – PART TWO.

If you have a performer in your family (9 – 13 yrs) who has big questions about life, the world and everything and they would love to perform in a mainstage production at HotHouse, then we would love to hear from you!

Registrations for workshop auditions are now open!

Workshop Auditions will be held on Saturday, 14 August from 10:00am - 4:00pm at HotHouse Theatre.

In the Workshop Auditions, performers will participate together in a group drama workshop, led by The Good Room, exploring their ideas through a series of games and exercises, in a safe and welcoming environment.

The aim is for participants to enjoy their day, learn some new skills and for them to feel safe and relaxed. The workshop format means there are multiple opportunities over the whole day to show the facilitators who they are and all their different skills!

At the end of the workshop, a group of young people will be invited back the next day, to begin workshopping the production.

Regardless of whether your young artist is invited back or not, we want them to feel satisfied that they had a great workshop, a positive experience and be ready to jump into an audition process again with confidence.

"The Good Room creatives have planted little seeds of thoughts that have not only expanded my children’s empathy for humanity and for themselves but ultimately celebrate life.”  - Penny Challen, Parent

As a condition of participation, parents must commit to their young artist being available for the following dates:

  • Workshop Audition: August 14 & 15
  • Weekend Intensive: August 28 & 29
  • Rehearsal Intensive: September 28 - Oct 2.
  • Performance Week: Oct 4 – Oct 9, including evening performances on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings (7pm) and matinees on Thursday (1pm) and Saturday (3pm).
  • Plus, weekly catch ups on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00pm-5:30pm from 17 August to 21 September.
  • Please note, the Thursday matinee performance will require performers to be out of school.
