Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

Feast of the Assumption of Mary

The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated each year on the 15th August.

The Assumption is when, according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.

The Assumption signals the end of Mary’s earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by his own power, Mary’s body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son.

For this reason we use different words to describe each event. One is the Ascension of Christ and the other, the Assumption of Mary.

Mass at St. Mary’s Church.

With our sacramental children preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of the Eucharist, we encourage everyone to our weekend celebrations of the Mass at St. Mary’s Church!

Children’s Mass booklets will be available at the entrance of the Church for the students to follow along with the words of the mass and become familiar with the responses used in the liturgy.

The sacramental students are most welcome to wear a coloured sash when attending the masses, to signify to the parishioners their time of preparation. These will also be available in the narthex of the church.

Thanking you,

Michelle Hicks
