3/4 CG

Maths

In Maths we have been learning about Capacity. Capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold. Last week students were asked to create a magic potion. They had specific instructions to follow. If their potion was over a certain amount it would explode. Here are a few examples.

We are drawing to an end, our unit of work on Division, making sure we recognise the ways to share, including how to deal with remainders when numbers can not be shared equally. We will begin a new unit, next week, focussing on Money and Financial Matters. Have a fish around behind the cushions on the couch and in the console of the car to find any and all spare coins so you can use them in our activities. Maybe now is the time to negotiate Pocket Money and what tasks you can undertake at home in order to earn some money, then choose something worthwhile to save for!

Literacy

Well done to those students that have managed to find and read their required texts for these last few weeks. Remote learning puts a great onus on our students to be self motivated and digitally literate. Navigating the various expectations can be challenging, so please be sure to ask for help if you find it difficult to keep up with your workload. Our focus has been on developing our use of language to build interest for the reader and moving forward on developing our sentence structure. Recognising the ways we can make reading more interesting by writing compound and complex sentences. Moving forward we will focus on making sure our writing is readable and follows conventional rules to make reading easy, by ensuring we use commas, full stops and other punctuation correctly.

Inquiry

We continue to investigate impacts on the environment of plastic waste, how it gets to the waterways and what effect it has on marine life. As we move forward we will begin to consider what we can do to mitigate these effects including an audit at home to count our own waste and identify how and where we create waste.

SFX Potato Olympics

Last Friday, students were asked to create their own potato to compete in the Olympics. 3/4CG certainly delivered, showing us some excellent competitors! They competed in events ranging from diving to shot put to ten pin bowling!
