Potato Olympics

On Friday, we participated in the SFX 2021 Potato Olympics.

A whole range of amazing competitors took part in both traditional and inventive events -allowing for speed, strength, endurance and measurement skills to be tested -

but most of all a lot of fun was definitely had!

Science Week

Lots of students had a go at some of cool experiments during Science week last week.

Maths

This week we have been trying something new for the 1/2 classes - live maths lessons!

Despite a few technical issues, it has been terrific to see everyone so organised and keen to participate. We have been working on making equal groups and checking they are fair. We have been counting the number of groups as well as how many are in each group and trying out different ways of recording what we have seen, made and worked out.

Repeated addition and skip counting have been helping us work out how many we have altogether.

Literacy

Last week we completed literacy activities, using similes and onomatopoeia in our writing in response to a range of different texts -

all with a scientific theme to celebrate Science Week.

We read about Izzy Gizmo, the child inventor and the Bug Collector, who learnt that bugs are better off in their own environment. We also watched Miss Terri create a volcano in her backyard, as well as a clip from the movie, 'Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs'.

This week we have been thinking lots about ideas - the ways that authors come up with their ideas and how stories can be broken down into their beginning, middle and ending.
