5/6 T

Well done everyone, you've made it through another fortnight of remote learning!!

Literacy

We have been continuing to practice our 'show, not tell' skills in writing over the past two weeks. The students have been learning about life on the goldfields and have used this knowledge to write their own 'choose your own adventure' books.

Some sizzling starts

Cicil: I leaped out of bed and went to the kitchen, mum was making freshly baked bread and tea and dad was getting ready to go to the goldfields hoping to find gold.

Gabby: As a ray of sunshine sparkles in my room I get up and get ready for the day, today felt lucky, I could feel it.

Mayon: As I woke up I felt a big urge to go back home to England. I knew that my father would never find even a speck of gold and now because of that I had to move schools every day.

Elaine: Thump, thump, thump... My shoes beat hard on the hot Australian sand. My daughter bounced up and down in my hands. Sweat dripped down my face and the Australian sun made my daughter's fever higher and higher.

Evan: Sigh! An (Aa-n) took a long exhale, the sun was scorching today and it was definitely not helping him dig. He kicked the spade into the dirt and pulled it out with all his strength using both hands, making sure not to hurt his back. He tossed the spade along with the dirt making the soil fly in all directions, letting go of the feeling of his legs, he slowly sat back against the wall of dirt.

Maths

In maths we have wrapped up our unit on Location and are shifting our focus to Money. In this unit the students will be applying their knowledge of the four operations to work with everyday situations involving money. They will also be using their knowledge of percentages to help them

Potato Olympics

It was great to see so many children take part in the Potato Olympic activities last Friday. It looked as though everyone had a great deal of fun creating their potato Olympians, decorating them and putting them through their paces in different events such as diving, running, skateboarding, soccer, high jump, sumo wrestling, rolling and spinning just to name a few! The photos and videos uploaded were so creative. Over the coming weeks we will have other wellbeing days to help break up our routine and inject an extra bit if fun in our day. Our next wellbeing day will be tomorrow! The children will learn more about it at their 9:15am morning meet.

Sovereign Hill Camp

As you are all aware we have had to cancel our upcoming Year 5/6 Camp to Sovereign Hill. The governments decision to enforce further lockdown restrictions means our camp can no longer go ahead.  The possibility of being able to reschedule our camp there for this year is very unlikely as Sovereign Hill do have lots of schools booked in for Term 4. We are endeavouring to look at some alternative options which may include a day trip to Sovereign Hill or an alternative camp elsewhere.
