Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term Three! The time has whizzed by so quickly and it is certainly another reminder to me of how important it is to continue being grateful for the simple things in life – especially time spent in the company of all those who support us.

The children have burst back through the doors eager to be back and to share their holiday stories with friends and staff. Term Three is a wonderful term with the routines of Terms One and Two in place, and the promise of moving from winter to spring and all that spring brings.

I hope the school holidays have given your children time to rest, relax and have some fun. Now is the time to support them to get back into the swing of a good school routine. Please make sure your children are eating breakfast, sleeping well and have healthy food choices in their lunch boxes. It is essential that children are wearing the correct school uniform each day and have a neat and tidy hairstyle.

As always our wonderful staff are keen to get back to support your children in their learning. We started the new semester with our two professional development days and the staff are looking forward to another great term of teaching and learning.

During the holiday break we refurbished the Primary section of the Library. You are very welcome to visit the Library with your children before and after school.

This morning Emmeline Bosnich (6B), Zac Pruiti (6G) and two secondary students proudly accompanied Mr Henderson to the Opening Mass of the Catholic Schools’ Performing Arts Festival. The Performing Arts are an integral part of the curriculum and later in the term we will get to view the Year 4 production, ‘Mystery at Magpie Manor’. Under the expert direction of Mrs Morrell, this promises to be a musical to remember.

In addition to this we have a number of sporting events this term. The students have been training hard for our Years 3-6 Interhouse Cross Country Carnival next Tuesday 25 July. The Carnival begins at 12:30pm and we hope many parents, grandparents and friends can come along and cheer on our enthusiastic runners.

Our first Assembly for the term is on Friday 28 July at 9:00am in Roncalli Hall. The Year 6’s will be receiving their Leadership badges for Semester Two at this Assembly.

Protective Behaviours Education

As of January 1, 2017, the new registration standards and other requirements for Non-Government Schools Subsection (12.1e) requires the “delivery to all students of a developmentally appropriate protective behaviours curriculum, developed by experts in child abuse prevention, and covering what the boundaries are between appropriate and inappropriate interactions and when, how and who to tell when a boundary is crossed…”

Protective Behaviours is an internationally acclaimed personal safety and child abuse prevention program.

The program is based on two themes:

“We all have the right to feel safe at all times” and

“We can talk with someone about anything, no matter what it is”

The staff at our school have participated in Protective Behaviours Professional Development workshops and will be integrating the Protective Behaviours Program into the curriculum from kindergarten through to Year 6. This Protective Behaviours program follows 10 Main Topics. The program includes teaching children the correct anatomical names for body parts which Protective Behaviour Educators advise is an important part of the program.
