Hotspurs Hockey Game

A combined senior hockey team made up of the strongest male and female hockey players in Years 10, 11 and 12 played an exhibition match against the Hotspurs Hockey team on Tuesday June 18. The Hotspurs are a team made up of current and former Premier League, State and National level players. They aim to promote and develop junior hockey in Western Australia.

With an experienced and talented opposition that included a number of former Hockeyroo and Kookaburra players it was always going to be a difficult game for the John XXIII College students.

The JTC team opened the scoring early in the first quarter but this prompted the Hotspurs into action, and they scored the next two. To their credit the JTC students didn’t give up and continued to attack and use their pace to advantage. The game ended with a final score line of 6-5 in favour of the Hotspurs. It was a free-flowing, action-packed game and a great learning opportunity for each of the students involved.

The game against JTC is a new initiative and will hopefully become an annual event. Thanks to Mark Pownall (current parent) for his involvement in getting this fixture organised.
