Alba Galban- Stephanie Alexander Garden Specialist

Spring is almost upon us. In the Stephanie Alexander Garden we are focusing on vegetables, herbs and fruit. The students have been learning about seeds and how to plant them. With the concrete now laid at the back of the school near the bike shed, we are able to use our greenhouse. It is an amazing privilege for our students to have a greenhouse as this ensures our rainy days are still garden friendly. We have planted capsicums, tomatoes, cucumbers and chillies. They will be ready for harvesting in 8 to 12 weeks. Having this facility means that the students are able to grow plants in a controlled environment.

Behind the greenhouse is our Community Garden. Many thanks to Anna Janai, Glenys Elliot and  Lindsay Costa for helping with cleaning and starting our beautiful Community Garden. Those that would like to participate with this project are invited to join us Friday mornings from 9.00am to 10.30am. No experience is necessary, just an imagination. Small children are welcome under supervision and any time spare is appreciated. If you would like to help in garden classes please don’t hesitate to contact me galban.alba.a@edumail.vic.gov.au .
