Resource lists for VCE & VCAL 2018 and the Promotions Policy
Resource lists for 2018 VCE & VCAL students were distributed on Thursday November 2 and are available on PAM. It is important the these are submitted by the 10 November due date, as students will require their resources for FastStart classes (beginning 27 November).
As parents and students will be aware, the College Promotions Policy requires that students entering VCE subjects achieve an average of 12/20 in the relevant 2017 Subject in order to progress. For some students, their final assessments and examinations may determine whether they have met this requirement.
As a College, we recognise that parents of 2018 VCE students will soon be submitting booklists which may then require adjustment due to their child’s final results. In light of this, the College has negotiated with our booksellers, Campion, to cater for late subject changes. Should a VCE student be required to change a subject, parents will be able to exchange newly-purchased textbooks at Campion, provided the books remain in 'as-new' condition; i.e. they may not be written in, covered, or show any signs of wear. A listing of Campion store locations is available on the Campion website.
Homework linked to positive changes in students’ personality
New research indicates that “students who do more homework than their peers show positive changes in conscientiousness”. While numerous previous studies have already clearly established the positive link between the amount of effort students invest in their homework and the increase in their academic success, this longitudinal study has reinforced the positive impact of homework to show that it increases the personality trait of conscientiousness. The study further shows that while the worldwide educational trend exists of “a temporary dip in late childhood and early adolescence”, consistently doing set homework helps students to maintain their learning progress: “doing your homework thoroughly and meticulously appeared to counterbalance this dip”.

Year 9 - 11 Examinations
Letters outlining the schedule, expectations and regulations for the upcoming Year 9 – 11 Examinations have been emailed to families and are available in the ‘Examinations’ Knowledge Bank in PAM. All parents and guardians are encouraged to read this with their child(ren) to ensure the examination experience is as smooth as possible.
It is important to note that the examinations are not the conclusion of the school year: as in previous years, Year 10 and 11 students commence their VCE/VCAL studies in the week following the examinations. Additionally, the Year 9 students will also commence their 2018 Year 10 subjects on the day after their examinations.
